The volleyball event Power Cup will travel to Loimaa in June 2025. The event is not new to Loimaa, as the Power Cup was also held there in 2006. Of course, the event itself has evolved and changed a lot since then, but the core around the volleyball tournaments remains the same. In addition to the matches, there will be other activities and an opening ceremony with an artist requested by the youth. And the event itself is open to all, so locals and visitors can join in the fun and excitement.
“I’m definitely looking forward as eagerly to the summer as all our players. The preparations are moving fast, and the opening of the registration makes the upcoming event even more concrete. I expect to see an all-time team record as this is an event you really don’t want to skip. It’s also a good gift for Christmas,” says Anna Komu, Event Director of the Power Cup.
Registration for next summer’s Power Cup is in full steam. Registration for international teams is open until 31 March 2025, and registration for the summer camp is also open. The summer camp will give children the opportunity to get to know volleyball without any previous experience of the sport, and at the same time they will be able to participate in the other activities of the event.
The goal is to gather more teams for the Power Cup than last year’s event in Joensuu. The final number of teams in Joensuu was 746 teams. Loimaa is expected to attract more international teams than previous years events. The number of international teams has been increasing every year and especially in Estonia the event is becoming well known among young volleyball players. Marketing will be directed towards European countries.
“Foreign teams usually travel to Helsinki by plane or boat, so Loimaa is closer and therefore the event is more easily accessible than in the last couple of years. This will certainly also help to increase the event’s interest,” says Komu.
Jankko volleyball and Hurrikaani- Loimaa are the official local organisers of the Power Cup Loimaa. Hurrikaani-Loimaa is familiar from the men’s national championship league. Last season, the club won the first Finnish championship in its history after a long wait. Loimaa’s other volleyball club, Jankko volleyball, is in charge of junior volleyball in the community. In total, Jankko has nearly 300 children and youths involved in the club’s weekly activities.
“Preparations for the Power Cup are already well on track in Loimaa and the event is the biggest topic of discussion in the city. We already have more than 20 people on our local organization committee. I have been delighted to see how enthusiastic and hard-working our volunteers have been in organizing the Power Cup. At the moment, preparations for almost every aspect of the event have already begun and the busiest phase of volunteer recruitment is about to begin. I believe and hope that the people of Loimaa and surrounding region will volunteer and help in this great tournament. The Power Cup has been very well received by businesses and associations and we want this to be a collective event for the whole Loimaa region,” says Katariina Kojo, local manager of the Power Cup.
